Felix

Only showing what’s been revealed up to your current progress. Future events, identities, and relationships are hidden.

Overview

Felix Gerault is a silver-bearded member of Aretia’s Assembly and is identified by Brennan as its most rational member.

Book II · Ch. 2

He takes responsibility for Violet Sorrengail’s lightning training in Aretia after the failed wardstone ritual, focusing on control rather than raw strike count.

Book II · Ch. 40

His conduit work grows from Violet’s personal training tool into part of Aretia’s wider wartime imbuing and weapons production.

Book II · Ch. 58

Appearance

Felix is a large man with a thick silver beard and an ebony hand.

Book II · Ch. 1

Personality and Behavior

Felix remains one of the calmer voices in Assembly disputes. He dismisses Suri’s outburst as theatrical while acknowledging that her question about what to do with the cadets has merit.

Book II · Ch. 37

As an instructor, Felix is blunt, sarcastic, and harsh without blaming Violet for gaps in training that Carr left unaddressed.

Book II · Ch. 40

Felix does not soften training after Violet’s collapse. He pushes her into lightning work, warns that battlefield pressure is worse than practice, and criticizes her squad’s boundary failures after the attack.

Book III · Ch. 55

Relationships

Felix defends Violet during the Assembly discussion by arguing that no first-year could withstand a memory reader. He also warns her directly that Aetos will try to kill her if she returns to Basgiath.

Book II · Ch. 1

Felix becomes Violet’s lightning instructor after watching her struggle at the wardstone ritual. His lessons set expectations for disciplined practice with the conduit before he continues pushing her toward safer control.

Book II · Ch. 46

Felix resumes intensive instruction when he comes to Basgiath, taking Violet to the mountaintop in nearly every spare moment and demanding more imbued conduit pieces as Aretia’s wards decline. Violet understands that he is training her as if she may be the only thing between the venin and Aretia.

Book III · Ch. 48

During the attack, Xaden orders Felix to keep the first-years safe and watch Aaric. Felix enforces the order by shoving Aaric down the hall when Aaric pauses on the landing.

Book III · Ch. 51

Felix opposes risking Xaden on what he calls a death wish and also objects to sending cadets after the previous rogue mission left Aretia still repairing its walls.

Book III · Ch. 57

Abilities and Skills

Felix understands Tyrrish runes well enough to weave a conduit specifically for Violet. The device uses alloy to store her power, and he requires her to practice with it before he continues her training.

Book II · Ch. 40

Felix teaches Violet to think about energy fields, attraction, and controlled flow rather than simply producing more lightning. His exercises move from the theory behind her wyvern-killing tactic to sustaining a thin stream of power across increasing distance.

Book II · Ch. 50

The controlled strand of lightning Felix trains Violet to sustain proves capable of imbuing the wardstone, making his precision work relevant to Aretia’s ward problem as well as combat.

Book II · Ch. 51

After Violet tells Felix the truth about the ward-fliers problem, he gives her six conduits containing imbued maorsite arrowheads as practical substitutes before wards suppress flier channeling.

Book II · Ch. 52

Felix supplies new conduits to every second- and third-year for wartime imbuing and modifies Violet’s replacement conduit with the bracelet strap she requested.

Book II · Ch. 58

Felix is present near cases of fully imbued alloy-hilted daggers, and Imogen concludes he must know about the attempt to use Garrick’s distance-wielding when more weapons are requested from hours away.

Book III · Ch. 63

Possessions

Felix rides a Red Swordtail dragon.

Book II · Ch. 56

Important Events

After the failed Aretian wardstone attempt, Felix observes Violet’s trembling fingers and decides her lightning training should begin the next day.

Book II · Ch. 39

Felix arrives after the wards kill the test wyvern and accompanies Violet back into Riorson House, where he urgently calls Xaden to the Assembly dais during the immediate response to the successful but flawed ward raising.

Book II · Ch. 56

Felix comes to Basgiath despite having said he would not leave Aretia. He brings Xaden provincial missives, reports that Aretia’s wards are failing as wyvern push farther through them, and takes up Violet’s training there because Carr will not instruct her.

Book III · Ch. 45

Felix travels with the Aretian rotation to Riorson House and helps guide Kaori after Kaori reacts with shock to the size of the entryway.
