Professor Devera

Only showing what’s been revealed up to your current progress. Future events, identities, and relationships are hidden.

Overview

Professor Devera is a Riders Quadrant officer and Battle Brief instructor at Basgiath. She teaches cadets to analyze current conflicts through tactical questions rather than passive memorization.

Book I · Ch. 5

After joining the Aretian side, Devera teaches Battle Brief in Aretia and holds the rank of major. Her duties include formal military announcements as well as classroom instruction.

Book II · Ch. 45

When Basgiath’s alliance structure is restored, Devera retakes command of Battle Brief and reshapes rider training around the open war against venin. Her authority reaches across academic scheduling, wing structure, challenge rules, and anti-venin preparation.

Book III · Ch. 13

Appearance

Devera has short purple hair that matches the bright purple Flame Section patch on her rider black.

Book I · Ch. 5

After time with the Southern Wing, Devera returns with even shorter hair and a fresh jagged wound on her arm.

Book II · Ch. 9

Personality and Behavior

Devera is stern in class, but she openly rewards sound analysis. Her Battle Brief instruction pushes cadets to ask useful questions about active conflicts and to connect tactical details to larger battlefield problems.

Book I · Ch. 5

Devera’s teaching does not treat Navarre’s official position as the only acceptable answer. While filling in for Professor Levini, she rejects anti-Tyrrish remarks, asks cadets to name the costs of Unification, and discusses the cultural, linguistic, travel, and knowledge losses that came with protecting Navarre’s defensive protections.

Book II · Ch. 21

During wartime briefings, Devera insists that cadets train from confirmed facts rather than rumor. She answers direct tactical questions in public and pushes the room to examine what could have changed a battle’s outcome.

Book III · Ch. 44

Relationships

Devera aligns herself with Xaden Riorson’s break from Basgiath’s official command. She says some professors have been waiting to join him, reveals that she spread the Zolya news through Battle Brief, and tells the cadets in Aretia that she is proud of the honorable choice that made them traitors from Navarre’s viewpoint.

Book II · Ch. 38

Devera’s authority remains important to the Aretian riders’ position at Basgiath after the wards are restored. Rhiannon expects Devera and Kaori to help stabilize the fractured command structure once the royals finalize a treaty.

Book III · Ch. 1

Back at Basgiath, Devera works with Emetterio and Kaori to reassert school authority after a courtyard confrontation. She also adapts Battle Brief to the revived alliance by adding Professor Kiandra as a co-leader.

Book III · Ch. 7

Abilities and Skills

Devera can use lesser magic during instruction, including moving map markers in Battle Brief.

Book II · Ch. 9

Devera has practical knowledge of wyvern and venin combat that many Basgiath cadets have not been taught. In the emergency briefing after the wardstone falls, she explains that killing a venin kills the wyvern that venin created and instructs riders to fight dark wielders in squads, coordinate signets, and change tactics in hand-to-hand combat because venin mimic their opponents.

Book II · Ch. 60

Devera is able to translate limited and damaged anti-venin knowledge into a working training program. She distributes anti-venin texts, adds history and signet-combat classes, requires rune-intensity rotations to Aretia, and confirms from three sources that high-level venin can wield signets.

Book III · Ch. 13

Possessions

Devera wears many medals and carries a longsword on her back, reinforcing her standing as a decorated rider officer as well as an instructor.

Book I · Ch. 5

Important Events

In Aretia, Devera leads the announcement ending segregated classes between riders and fliers after two weeks of failed integration. She applies the Dragon Rider’s Codex to every cadet and oversees the challenge between Violet Sorrengail and Catriona Cordella under rules she set.

Book II · Ch. 47

Devera survives the defense of Basgiath and takes part in the post-battle negotiations with Melgren over the Aretian force’s return. Her presence places her among the officials shaping the immediate settlement after Basgiath’s survival.

Book II · Ch. 65

Devera leads a broad overhaul of Basgiath training once open war demands new instruction. The changes include new classes, rune rotations, Signet Sparring, challenge training with wielding under supervision, and a moratorium on killing within Basgiath’s walls.

Book III · Ch. 17

After the travelers return with Zehyllnan support, Devera publicly credits them with securing forty thousand soldiers and turns Battle Brief toward deployment strategy and Suniva’s fall. She confirms casualties and tactical details, identifies traitors in their ranks when asked who knew the dagger schedule, and directs the class toward practical questions about the defeat.
