Overview
The High Lord of the Day Court is one of the seven rulers who contribute power to Feyre after the curse breaks.
Helion Spell-Cleaver is the High Lord of the Day Court, whose people excel at spell work and preserve extensive archives of Prythian's knowledge.
During the war against Hybern, Helion commits the Day Court's army to the allied campaign and presses for immediate evacuation and additional military support.
Helion is Rhys's closest political ally and a leading architect of the proposed peace treaty, drawing on the Day Court's immense library resources to help draft it.
Appearance
The High Lord of the Day Court has dark skin that appears lit from within. At Feyre's transformation, he wears white and gold.
Personality and Behavior
Helion favors a theatrical, provocative public manner but can set it aside for focused strategy and private candor. His warmer behavior in private contrasts with the aloof, edged persona he resumes when acting formally as High Lord.
Even after severe danger or injury, Helion readily returns to irreverent or grim humor. His levity does not prevent him from treating magical rites and political risks seriously.
Relationships
By the time of the High Lords' summit, the Night Court regards Helion and the Day Court as one of its likeliest alliances against Hybern, with Day considered the stronger Solar Court prospect.
Helion saved the Lady of Autumn from Hybern's beasts during the previous war and afterward had an intermittent affair with her for decades, ending when Beron discovered it. He remains angered by Beron's belittling and physical abuse of her.
After noticing similarities in appearance, coloring, voice, and manner, Feyre privately concludes that Helion is Lucien's biological father. She shares the possibility with Rhys but not with Helion or Lucien.
Feyre's private conclusion about Lucien's parentage has hardened into certainty: she regards Helion as Lucien's true father, though the knowledge remains confined to her and Rhys.
Helion's alliance with Rhys has deepened enough for him to be described as Rhys's closest ally, and the two cooperate on plans for a lasting peace.
Abilities and Skills
The portion of Helion's power carried by Feyre lets her detect magical tangles and spells and gives her the ward-breaking gift associated with him.
His knowledge magic can reproduce documents instantly, allowing him to create copies for every participant at the High Lords' summit.
Helion can recognize and probe the fragment of his power within Feyre, sensing it as a missing piece of himself and identifying its ward-breaking properties.
Helion possesses some means of finding or sensing people across dangerous territory; he locates Feyre in the Middle and winnows her safely back to Rhys's camp.
Complex enchanted restraints fall within Helion's spell-breaking expertise, and he is summoned to remove the King of Hybern's chains from Elain.
Helion can assume a radiant beast form with gold feathers, claws, and feathered wings. In this shape he can devastate enemy ranks and engage powerful spellcasters directly.
Helion can create exceptionally strong magical shields and teaches Rhys the techniques needed to make them effectively impenetrable.
The Night Court relies on Helion as a specialist in advanced wards and hostile enchantments. He determines that the captured Autumn soldiers are influenced by a fog around their minds rather than ordinary magical threads, and he seals the Mask behind stronger wards keyed to Nesta's blood.
Helion's protective spellcraft can reinforce enormous sites as well as individuals; Rhys uses techniques learned from him to place a sophisticated shield around the Prison.
Even Helion's wards cannot prevent Nesta from summoning the Dread Trove when she deliberately calls the objects through her unique bond with them.
Possessions
Helion commands a network of a thousand libraries devoted to preserving Prythian's accumulated knowledge. Amarantha personally looted these collections during her rule.
The libraries remain supported by numerous head librarians and researchers whom Helion can mobilize for urgent investigations.
Important Events
Helion commits the Day Court's terrestrial army to the war against Hybern and coordinates its march with the Night Court's forces. He also presses Tamlin to evacuate Spring's people and contribute whatever host he can muster.
Before the final battle, Helion secretly bargains with the Weaver on Rhys's behalf, offering to break the spell containing her in exchange for her military aid.
Helion fights at the front in his beast form and duels a powerful Hybern commander spell against spell. The commander nearly kills him before Amren, released into her true form, destroys his opponent.
After Rhys dies, Helion joins the other High Lords around his body and contributes a kernel of life that restores him.
When Rhys reveals the mortal danger surrounding Feyre's pregnancy and begs for help, Helion commits every librarian and researcher he can spare to searching for a solution.
