Overview
The Human Realm is the mortal world south of the Wall, separate from the faerie territories of Prythian and home to Feyre’s human family. Its lands are a principal target of the King of Hybern’s campaign to reclaim the world beyond Prythian.
As war nears, the Human Realm becomes Hybern's staging ground below the Wall — infiltrated by the king's agents, its collaborator queens hidden by his power, and Feyre's own family no longer safe within it.
Once the Wall falls, the Human Realm turns from a protected backwater into the war's open front, its villages overrun as allied forces race to pull civilians clear of Hybern's advance.
Important Events
Hybern establishes an organized presence in the Human Realm before open war. Jurian serves there as the king’s liaison, Hybern conceals the allied queens’ court with his power, and his agents seize Feyre’s sisters from their human home.
After the Wall falls, Hybern’s army marches into the Human Realm and turns its plains and settlements into an active battlefield. Allied forces encounter destroyed homes and ruined villages while attempting to evacuate civilians ahead of the invasion.
Location and Access
The Human Realm lies south of the Wall and includes coastal lands directly beyond the border as well as territories farther into the continent.
Overland movement from Prythian into the human lands must pass through the Spring Court.
With the Wall gone, travelers from the Night Court can also winnow directly into the human territories.
Layout and Features
The human queens’ palace was built by Fae hands to protect humans from faeries. Its defenses make the structure a death trap for Fae who enter.
Function and Rules
Many human communities abandoned or prohibited old holidays associated with faerie gods after the faeries withdrew. Even the gods’ names have largely passed out of human memory.
Human society places restrictive expectations on women, including modest dress and lives centered on marriage, childbearing, and arranging their children’s marriages. Wealth commonly narrows those expectations rather than granting greater independence.
In the postwar settlement, the Night Court forbids Beron from entering the human lands and declares that no faerie court will be permitted to expand into them.
Residents and Affiliations
The human queens maintain a palace in the Human Realm. A barrier there prevents direct faerie entry, making it a focal point for Prythian’s attempts to approach the mortal side.
Nesta Archeron accepts appointment as the Night Court’s emissary to the human lands, giving their inhabitants a formal advocate before Prythian’s High Lords.
Lucien Vanserra resides in the human lands with Jurian and Vassa, operating apart from the Night Court in Velaris.
