Overview
The High Lord of the Winter Court is one of Prythian’s seven ruling High Lords.
Kallias is the quiet and cunning High Lord of the Winter Court.
At the High Lords’ meeting, Kallias openly challenges Rhysand over his apparent complicity when Amarantha ordered the slaughter of Winter Court younglings. He does not forgive him, but he stops backing Tamlin’s accusation and returns to the practical question of opposing Hybern.
The postwar tie between Winter and Night settles into something cool at the top and warmer beneath it — correct between the two High Lords, genuinely close through their partners’ friendship.
Personality and Behavior
Kallias is quiet and cunning.
He approaches inter-court diplomacy cautiously after the horrors inflicted on Winter under Amarantha. He insists on armed guards before considering the High Lords’ summit and refuses to let the gathering take place within his court.
Relationships
Kallias’s relations with Rhysand and the Night Court are strained by events Under the Mountain, leaving Winter an uncertain ally as war with Hybern approaches.
Kallias is married to Viviane. Although he tries to keep her away from the dangerous summit, she accompanies him, and he displays a warmth toward her absent from his dealings with the other rulers.
Kallias confronts Rhysand over his apparent complicity when Amarantha ordered the slaughter of Winter Court younglings. Rhysand’s explanation does not produce immediate forgiveness, but Kallias stops supporting Tamlin’s accusation and returns to the practical question of opposing Hybern.
After the war, Kallias and Rhysand maintain a lukewarm political relationship, while Viviane and Mor provide a warmer personal connection between their courts.
Abilities and Skills
Kallias possesses Winter Court ice magic, one of the powers Feyre inherited when the High Lords remade her.
In battle, he can release sprays of ice powerful enough to tear through enemy soldiers.
Important Events
After Feyre’s death Under the Mountain, the High Lord of the Winter Court contributes a kernel of his power to help restore her as High Fae.
Kallias admits that Amarantha’s damage left Winter without enough troops for the coming war. He says the court’s principal remaining force is the army Viviane commanded and concealed.
Kallias commits the Winter Court’s land forces to the alliance against Hybern.
Kallias arrives with the Winter Court army for the final campaign against Hybern. He fights alongside his soldiers and helps the other High Lords hold the allied lines after the Cauldron devastates their forces.
When Rhysand dies repairing the Cauldron, Kallias joins the other High Lords in giving him a spark of life and restoring him.
Under Kallias’s rule, the Winter Court begins reopening its borders after its long isolation.
