Overview
Siphons are Illyrian magical stones used by warriors whose raw power requires controlled channeling.
In battle, a wielder can wake the stones, feed power into them, and feel that force refracted back as proof that the Siphons are ready. Their colored light can also mark a fighter's position, though ash-weakened power may leave that signal only flickering.
They can also be turned from attack to control, shaping precise restraints around captives' wrists, ankles, and mouths. Even after ash suppression and injury, use can resume soon after the suppressing source is removed.
Appearance
Cassian's Siphons flare red when active.
Azriel's Siphons blaze blue when power passes through them.
Ownership or Custody
Cassian and Azriel both carry and wield Siphons in combat.
Function, Rules, and Limitations
When an Illyrian's magic manifests, Siphons control and filter that force into a usable form. The Blood Rite's spell bars their use because magically gifted warriors would otherwise have an unfair advantage.
A wielder can feed power into the stones and feel it refracted back, confirming that they are ready for use. Their colored light can also serve as a visible battlefield signal, though ash-inflicted suppression of the wielder's power can reduce them to a flicker.
Siphon power can form precise restraints around captives' wrists, ankles, and mouths. Use can resume soon after the source of ash suppression is removed, even while the wielder remains wounded.
