Treaty of Aretia

Only showing what’s been revealed up to your current progress. Future events, identities, and relationships are hidden.

Overview

The Treaty of Aretia is a postwar settlement associated with Reunification Day and the war against separatists. King Tauri’s proclamation names it as part of what the holiday celebrates, saying it honored those saved by the treaty.

Book I · Ch. 31

By the time of the renewed alliance, the Second Aretia Accord functions as an active political and military settlement. It governs Tyrrendor’s command structure and underlies obligations between Navarre, Aretia, and Poromiel.

Book III · Ch. 44

Function, Rules, and Limitations

Addendum 4.2 of the Treaty of Aretia states that the 107 children of executed officers carry rebellion relics transferred by the dragon who carried out the king’s justice. The addendum defines their conscription into Basgiath’s Riders Quadrant as the king’s mercy and requires them to prove loyalty to Navarre through service or death.

Book I · Ch. 32

A public notice cites the Treaty of Aretia as the authority under which Aretia was burned by dragon after the separatist movement. The same notice uses the treaty to support the official claim that Aretia’s survivors and dead are entombed in the ruins.

Book II · Ch. 1

The treaty also changes Tyrrendor’s formal political representation. It transfers the province’s seat in the King’s Senarium away from the House of Riorson and to the House of Lewellen.

Book II · Ch. 48

Article Two, Section One of the Aretia Accord states that fliers and riders are equal in every regard except wing structure. It preserves rider wings, sections, squads, and commands while requiring every drift to be absorbed by a squad, with each drift leader replacing that squad’s executive officer for cohesion and efficiency.

Book II · Ch. 49

The new Aretia Accord includes full pardons for those who flew for Aretia, allows the Aretian riot to remain at Basgiath if the fliers stay with their squads, and is signed by Xaden, the Senarium, and King Tauri. Its pardons cover crimes committed before the morning of signing, preventing treason charges over Violet’s wardstone alteration and the actions of her unnamed helpers.

Book III · Ch. 8

The Second Aretia Accord changes command control over Tyrrendor. Xaden says Aretia would otherwise fall under Southern Wing authority, but Tyrrendor now falls to the reigning house, practically Ulices and Kylynn, who answer to him.

Book III · Ch. 14

The accord’s terms can be used as leverage against Violet’s continued refusal of an assignment. Halden warns that if she fails after being allowed to choose her squad, a new commander will be assigned, and if she refuses to continue, the accord’s terms will be negated, including those that restored Xaden’s title.

Book III · Ch. 20

The Aretia Accord binds the alliance to military obligations beyond Aretia and Navarre. Dain relies on that framework when he argues that they are obligated to defend King Tecarus, placing Poromiel’s defense within the current settlement.

Book III · Ch. 44

Important Uses

Violet uses the Treaty of Aretia as a benchmark for the difficulty of major political negotiations, noting that its initial phase took thirteen days. The comparison underscores how quickly the current peace negotiations are being pushed forward.
