Overview
Lucien's father rules the Autumn Court as its High Lord, presiding over a court where his sons compete violently for succession.
The High Lord is named Beron.
Beron treats the war with Hybern as a chance to obstruct rather than lead — hoarding Autumn's armies as leverage, dismissing the danger to humans, and committing to the fight only grudgingly.
By the postwar years, Feyre privately concludes that Beron is not even Lucien's true father — a hidden fact that casts his lifelong cruelty toward his supposed youngest son in a harsher light.
Beron has pledged Autumn's forces to Briallyn and appears prepared to exploit the resulting war for territorial gain.
Briallyn's death leaves Beron furious rather than deterred, and Eris warns that he may seek an alliance with Koschei.
Personality and Behavior
Beron is cruel and vain.
His political conduct combines suspicion, prejudice, and contempt. Although he remembers the atrocities of the previous war, he dismisses humans below the Wall as chattel and uses the danger facing Prythian to justify obstruction rather than cooperation.
Relationships
The High Lord's violence has shaped Lucien's life. He had Lucien's lover executed because she was not High Fae, showed no remorse, and allowed Lucien's brothers to hunt him as a rival for the succession.
Eris seeks Night Court support to replace Beron as High Lord, making father and son political enemies despite Eris's continued place in the Autumn Court.
Rhys considers it certain that Beron would have Eris killed if he learned that his son intended to seize the throne by force.
Beron is publicly treated as Lucien's father, but Feyre privately becomes certain that he is not Lucien's biological parent.
Beron tortures Eris for information after his son's return, forcing Eris to conceal the full extent of his cooperation with the Night Court.
Abilities and Skills
Beron's magic includes the Autumn Court's fire. The power he contributed to Feyre's remaking is the source of her own fire magic.
His defenses give him formidable control over the Forest House: enemies cannot approach it without his knowledge or leave without his permission.
Important Events
At the High Lords' summit, Beron obstructs cooperation, refuses to commit Autumn's armies, and provokes Feyre until she nearly drowns him with her magic. He attempts to abandon the meeting while cursing the other courts to destruction, leaving only after agreeing to consider fighting Hybern.
Beron brings Autumn's army into the war against Hybern only after Tamlin physically forces him to attend the battle. Autumn's forces nevertheless provide valuable support, including attacks on Hybern's faebane supplies.
Beron refuses to help restore Rhys to life until Mor threatens him at swordpoint, after which he grudgingly contributes a fragment of his power.
