Drake Cordella

Only showing what’s been revealed up to your current progress. Future events, identities, and relationships are hidden.

Overview

Drake Cordella is a Poromish captain of the Nightwing Drift and the author of Venin, A Compendium. His service places him in the north along the Braevick border, and his compendium records practical observations about venin ranks for use in the war effort.

Book II · Ch. 47

Drake joins Violet’s Deverelli expedition as Captain Cordella, serving as a trusted flier presence for Cat and the wider squad. After the expedition and Basgiath’s inquisition, he returns to Cordyn while Poromish territory faces mounting pressure from Suniva’s fall and Krovla’s collapse.

Book III · Ch. 44

Appearance

Drake is tall, lean, and dark-haired, with a quick smile. He carries chest-sheathed daggers and a blade at his side.

Book III · Ch. 20

Personality and Behavior

Drake answers Mira’s attack with restraint rather than retaliation. After she knees him and warns him never to endanger Violet again, he recognizes her, acknowledges her warning, and lets the confrontation pass.

Book III · Ch. 20

His humor is quick, dry, and persistent enough to draw comparisons to Ridoc. Drake jokes with Mira and Xaden in Matyas, comments sharply on tensions during the expedition, and keeps grinning through a tactical argument until Xaden tells him he is becoming annoying.

Book III · Ch. 33

Drake can also enforce discipline in small moments: when Ridoc jokes after Mira’s no-complaining order, Drake snaps at him to stop.

Book III · Ch. 38

Relationships

Drake is Syrena and Cat’s cousin, not Syrena’s older brother. Syrena describes him with enough familiarity to joke about his taste for dangerous women and where he would probably draw a line.

Book II · Ch. 41

Cat trusts Drake enough that Violet adds him to the Deverelli squad for her sake. He stays close to Cat when Kiralair’s severed connection distresses her, and after Trager’s death he restrains and quiets Cat to keep her reaction from exposing them.

Book III · Ch. 39

Drake’s gryphon is Sovadunn, also called Sova. Sova travels with the mission’s aerial group, is affected by the magical severance at Tecarus’s Deverelli manor, and later clicks to Drake when Cat insists on diverting for funeral rites.

Book III · Ch. 39

Mira knows Drake as a Nightwing Drift flier who helped bring down wards during the Montserrat offensive. Her hostility is direct and personal when they meet, but Drake accepts her warning without escalating the confrontation.

Book III · Ch. 20

Abilities and Skills

Drake has compiled usable military knowledge about venin. Venin, A Compendium classifies dark wielders by age and experience, is used in Basgiath’s official anti-venin instruction, and warns that venin markings are easier to hide in darkness because venin may move among ordinary people.

Book III · Ch. 43

Mira identifies Drake as a Nightwing Drift flier who was instrumental in bringing down wards during the Montserrat offensive.

Book III · Ch. 20

Drake contributes practical field judgment during the expedition. He brings intelligence that helps the party avoid venin on the way to Cordyn, recommends a full day of rest for the gryphons before the long flight to Hedotis, and argues for a two-pronged Pelson flight formation in a contained environment.

Book III · Ch. 33

He is trusted with active security work. Drake leads the group through crowded Matyas, stays behind to guard the horses and prepare an escape, and later takes the front door when Mira assigns the exits around Faris’s house.

Book III · Ch. 36

Possessions

Drake receives an orange tabby kitten during the Zehyllnan gift ceremony and accepts her politely instead of being attacked by the claw card. He names the kitten Broccoli and keeps her with him the next morning while studying the worn map.

Book III · Ch. 40

Important Events

After Trager and Silaraine die, Drake conducts their funeral rite on the minor isle. He speaks over the fire and waves to commend their souls to Malek.

Book III · Ch. 40

After Queen Maraya’s death, General Aetos looks at Drake and says it is too bad he was born on the wrong side of the family. The remark implies that Drake’s place in the Cordella family has new political weight.
