Overview
The Healer Quadrant is one of Basgiath’s officer-training divisions, separate from the Riders Quadrant and presented as a normal conscription path for candidates entering healer service.
Important Events
During the battle at Basgiath, Sawyer is carried to the Healer Quadrant after a wyvern bites off his leg, but the infirmary is already overwhelmed. Wounded infantry and riders line the entrance area, healers rush between patients, and the beds run out.
The infirmary becomes the starting point of a venin emergency when Winifred restrains a screaming infantry cadet at the doors and Violet orders them locked. Outside, the tunnel’s overflow-bed patients have been drained into desiccated bodies.
After the attack, the cleared tunnel and sleeping healers let Violet’s group use the infirmary as the staging point for secretly removing Sawyer, with Dyre controlling the doors.
Location and Access
A hidden route from the Riders Quadrant reaches the Healer Quadrant through a door below the main level and a passage farther up the ravine, making it a possible escape path toward the Scribe Quadrant.
The quadrant occupies the southern end of Basgiath and is reached from the Riders Quadrant by a lower covered passage over the ravine, built like an enclosed stone bridge with windows.
The healer-side bridge and clinic lie on the Archives chore route, which carries traffic from the Riders Quadrant across the glass-windowed corridor and down into Basgiath’s tunnels.
Routes through the Healer Quadrant also descend toward Basgiath’s main campus courtyard.
Layout and Features
Its infirmary is a long hall of beds used for injured riders and other patients.
The infirmary includes a guarded back door and a secretive back room associated with Nolon and Varrish. Repeated sightings of Nolon leaving that area in a severely depleted state make that part of the clinic stand out from the ordinary wards.
After the battle at Basgiath, the healer area includes curtained treatment bays off a cluttered tunnel where patients continue to recover.
Function and Rules
The quadrant trains healers for military service, and candidates can be directed there on Conscription Day instead of entering the Riders Quadrant.
The Healer Quadrant is Basgiath’s main destination for serious treatment after field care. Temporary rider medical stations are meant only to stabilize the wounded until healers can examine them, including cases that may require surgery.
Healer Quadrant second-years have historically been allowed to visit Chantara, a privilege denied to Riders Quadrant second-years.
Residents and Affiliations
Nolon is closely associated with the infirmary, especially the guarded back area that draws suspicion around his work there.
Dyre can provide lower-profile medical help in the quadrant when approached directly rather than through a mender.
During the battle at Basgiath, second- and third-year healers race between patients as the overwhelmed infirmary fills with wounded infantry and riders.
In the aftermath of Basgiath’s battle, healing-trained fliers assist in the Healer Quadrant while hooded scribes move among patients to collect accurate accounts.
