Hedotis

Only showing what’s been revealed up to your current progress. Future events, identities, and relationships are hidden.

Overview

Hedotis is an isle known for knowledge and peace, though its first visible orderliness is colder and more unsettling than that reputation suggests.

Book III · Ch. 33

The isle has no magic, a condition that weakens dragons and prevents mending. Its recorded neutrality also makes its support in the continental war doubtful.

Book III · Ch. 34

Hedotis is left under coerced silence rather than true alliance after the party's mission there.

Book III · Ch. 37

Important Events

Faris stages a poisoning inside his Hedotic home, using the household servants and cook as part of the mechanism. Violet has to search the kitchen and pantry for a local poison with help from Asher's guide and clues from the isle's pale ecosystem.

Book III · Ch. 36

The party leaves Hedotis by hovering out of cross-bolt range until Andarna rejoins them, showing that the island is still a threat after Faris drinks the antidote.

Book III · Ch. 37

Xaden cites Violet's poisoning of the Hedotic triumvirate as proof that she has already acted decisively and successfully under extreme diplomatic pressure. Later, Ridoc summarizes the crisis to Rhiannon by saying Violet poisoned Xaden's mother and all three Hedotic heads of state.

Book III · Ch. 43

Location and Access

Hedotis is one of the isle targets on the diplomatic route, and Dain identifies it as an isle unlikely to speak with the party unless Halden is present.

Book III · Ch. 28

The party reaches Hedotis after resting the gryphons for a full day and flying thirteen hours from Unnbriel. Trading vessels anchor offshore near Vidirys, but the capital has no true port.

Book III · Ch. 33

Hedotis has a practical shipping connection to Deverelli.

Book III · Ch. 34

After the Hedotis crisis, Violet expects that any return through the isle should avoid its settled areas; she is fairly sure she is banned there and suggests camping on a deserted coast instead.

Book III · Ch. 43

Layout and Features

Hedotis is colder than Unnbriel and has pale vegetation. Its coastal capital, Vidirys, is built of cream stone.

Book III · Ch. 33

Faris and Talia's seaside household reflects Hedotis's wealthy, pale, ocean-adjacent style, with cream-colored halls, pale green and gold decoration, and a veranda overlooking sand and water. Viladrite is common enough in Hedotic food and drink to turn pale eye colors purple.

Book III · Ch. 34

Hedotis has rebuilt itself around strict uniformity and caution. Violet reads the razing and replacement of Vidirys as intolerance of imperfection, while Faris's remarks point to fear or caution about venturing over water because of unknown depths.

Book III · Ch. 35

Function and Rules

Hedotic society prizes peace, knowledge, and wisdom, but it withholds knowledge from outsiders even during the wider war. Aaric condemns the isle for having no army and for guarding information while people elsewhere die.

Book III · Ch. 35

Faris argues that Hedotis is safe because it has no magic, but Violet warns that venin can drain the island itself once they finish with the Continent.

Book III · Ch. 37

Residents and Affiliations

Faris and Talia are associated with a wealthy seaside household on Hedotis.

Book III · Ch. 34

Hedotis is governed by three heads of state, described in the aftermath of Violet's mission as the Hedotic heads of state.
