Overview
Resson is a modern trading post near the site of the first known gryphon attack in 1 AU. Its position at the edge of the dragon-protected border leaves it vulnerable, and the post has changed hands at least eleven times over six centuries.
Resson is a Poromish trading post below Athebyne, home to more than three hundred people and important enough to host yearly trades.
Important Events
The area around Resson is associated with the first known gryphon attack in 1 AU, a history that helps explain the post’s long vulnerability along the dragon-protected border.
Resson comes under attack by venin and wyvern, who blast open its gates and stone walls while civilians try to escape. A staff-bearing venin uses the central clock tower as a vantage point to throw blue flames at civilians, and Tairn’s fire destroys the wooden tower without killing him.
Resson becomes a touchstone in disputes over Violet’s loyalties. Bodhi points to the battle as proof that she fought at Xaden’s side, while Violet thinks of Resson as the place where venin became real to her, where she was stabbed by a poisoned blade, and where Soleil and Liam died.
Navarre’s public accounts conceal Resson’s destruction by describing it in Battle Brief only as a nearby Poromish trading post supposedly leveled by Poromish unrest. Markham also uses that claim to explain disrupted Poromish communication about Athebyne.
When Violet recounts the hidden battle at Resson to Rhiannon, Ridoc, and Sawyer, she describes the events from leaving the War Games course with Xaden through being stabbed and falling from Tairn. The group also reasons that the official report of miles of charring likely reflects wyvern remains being burned.
Resson becomes the core evidence Violet chooses to show Dain. Her memory of the battle includes the realization that they had been sent there to die, wyvern, venin, blue fire, desiccated land, Soleil and Fuil falling, Liam’s last words, and Violet fighting a dark wielder from Tairn’s back before being stabbed.
Resson becomes the shared proof used to break the Riders Quadrant’s ignorance of venin and wyvern. Violet has Tairn share only the memory of that battle, giving formation a direct view of what happened there and provoking shock and partial belief among the riders.
Resson is the starting point both Violet and Xaden give for the recurring Sage dreams. Violet says she has had the same dream since Resson, and Xaden says his own have come at least once a week since that battle and more often since Basgiath.
Location and Access
Resson sits near Navarre’s dragon-protected border and below Athebyne, placing it in the exposed border region where Poromish settlements can be struck despite their proximity to Navarre.
Layout and Features
The trading post has gates and stone walls, with a clock tower standing in the middle of the settlement. A mine lies close enough to serve as a refuge route when civilians flee the attack.
After the clock tower is destroyed, its rubble conceals a small iron box that Chradh is drawn to through rune sensitivity. The discovery makes the tower’s remains the source of a recovered artifact or clue as well as a battlefield landmark.
Function and Rules
Resson functions as a trading post for yearly exchanges. Its civilian population and border commerce make it a practical target when venin and wyvern attack the region.
Residents and Affiliations
More than three hundred people live in Resson before the attack. During the battle, civilians flee toward the mine while riders, dragons, gryphons, and fliers fight around the trading post to get them out.
