Overview
Chradh is the dragon paired with Garrick. He first stands out at Resson, where he carries Garrick close enough to a venin leader for Garrick to throw a dagger, and after the battle his rune sensitivity helps recover a hidden iron box from beneath the clock tower rubble.
Appearance
Chradh is a Brown Scorpiontail dragon.
After shielding Garrick in a tornado crash, Chradh is temporarily knocked unconscious and left missing scales along his jaw.
Relationships
Chradh reacts to Garrick's poisoning with rage rather than the grief of a dragon who has lost his rider. As Garrick recovers enough to be moved, the party's immediate plan is to return him to Chradh.
Abilities and Skills
Chradh is remarkably sensitive to runes. That sensitivity lets him and Garrick locate and retrieve a small iron box hidden beneath the rubble of Resson's clock tower.
At Basgiath, Chradh senses rune energy that differs from the school's ordinary rune work and matches the energy he detected at Resson.
Jack Barlowe's memories explain the Basgiath warning: Jack planted lures around the college and along the Vale path, and the lure energy is what Chradh detected on arrival.
Chradh uses both his jaws and scorpiontail barb in battle, biting a wyvern's head and stabbing its belly before the creature falls.
Chradh can accompany Garrick through sudden transport that makes them appear where there was empty space and vanish again with the Rybestad chest. Dain observes enough of the disappearance to ask how Garrick and Chradh vanished into thin air.
Important Events
During the tornado crash, Chradh turns his body to take the impact on his stomach and saves Garrick's life. He wakes afterward, rises, and leaves with Garrick before the rest of the squad can see the secret behind Garrick's arrival.
Chradh accompanies Garrick on the Unnbriel expedition and lands behind the central group in the meadow as part of the dragon-side travel and protection formation.
Chradh returns from the search with Sgaeyl while the irids refuse to help. He lands near the stream, and Garrick dismounts before approaching Violet, Ridoc, and the irids.
Chradh arrives in the northern field with Garrick while carrying the Rybestad chest in his foreclaw, completing the rapid transport that brings Jack Barlowe before Theophanie's deadline.
During the Draithus air battle, Chradh is absent from the visible fight when Imogen looks for him. With Garrick also unavailable, the defenders lack their most powerful rider-dragon pair during that phase of the battle.
