Overview
Third Wing is a rider wing with its own wingleader and first-year cadets.
Structure and Leadership
Amber Mavis is Third Wing’s current wingleader. Dain cites his friendship with her and her reverence for the Codex when arguing that wingleaders consider the Codex sacred.
After Amber’s execution, Lamani Zohar leads Third Wing.
Notable Members
Jeremiah is a Third Wing first-year whose inntinnsic manifestation erupts in the courtyard.
Ruford Sharna is identified as a Third Wing rider after he dies during maneuvers when snow keeps Haem from catching him.
Relationships and Rivals
At Aretia, Third Wing is pulled into the tense integration of riders and gryphon fliers. A Third Wing rider voices suspicion that fliers may push riders off a cliff during the ascent, and Brennan uses the fear to insist that riders and fliers climb together to build trust.
The hostility is not only verbal: a brawl involving Third Wing and two drifts leaves more than a dozen cadets bruised and contributes to an instructor crackdown.
Activities
Third Wing cadets share Carr’s wielding classroom with Fourth Wing, and Violet later wins a challenge against a Third Wing man before Jack’s challenge occurs.
Third Wing serves as the opposing force in the Shedrick Woods evasion exercise.
At Aretia, Third Wing stands in courtyard formation. Later, Violet says the third-years are patrolling the Cliffs of Dralor for wyvern and Navarrian riders.
During the battle at Basgiath, Third Wing squads hold positions along the mountains, where Violet sees wyvern overrun one squad beside a fallen dragon.
