Important Incidents

Xaden’s recovered correspondence gives the battle a personal cost beyond its public history. His last words with Fen before Fen left for the battle were angry because Fen was sending him away for safety, and Xaden writes that he is not sure he will ever forgive himself.

Book II · Ch. 34

Before the rebellion officers left for the Battle of Aretia, each of their children received a protection stone. Xaden connects those stones to the parents’ expectation that their own execution and the battle could follow, making the stones part of a deliberate effort to protect the marked children.

Related Entities

Reunification Day is the kingdom-wide celebration Navarre establishes on the battle’s anniversary. The proclamation uses the holiday to reinforce the official account of victory over separatists.
