Overview
The Sidra is the broad sapphire river that curves through Velaris toward the sea. Its riverfront forms one of the city’s principal commercial and social corridors.
At night, the river reflects stars, city lights, and the Rainbow’s colors, with restaurants and cafés lining both banks.
During the attack on Velaris, Feyre feels danger approaching through the river and turns its water into wolves and then raptors against the enemy.
Later, a riverside estate on the Sidra becomes the site of Feyre and Rhys’s planned home, with gardens and paths running to the edge.
Important Events
When an enemy force attacks Velaris from the sea, Feyre senses its approach through the Sidra’s current, bedrock, plants, and creatures. She raises the river into enormous wolves of water and reshapes them into raptors to fight the attackers.
Location and Access
The river runs through Velaris, separating the city’s four main market squares into northern and southern pairs. The performers’ district stands across the water from the Rainbow.
Wide marble bridges carry steady foot traffic across the Sidra, while walkways follow both banks.
At its mouth, the Sidra contains both fresh water and seawater and opens directly onto the sea.
Layout and Features
The Sidra has a broad, smooth surface that reflects the stars, city lights, and colors of the Rainbow. Restaurants and cafés line the riverwalk on both sides.
A southeastern bend of the river borders estates with grounds descending to the water. Ruined boathouses and abandoned lawns survive there among properties once associated with grand homes and summer boat races.
During winter, thin sheets of ice drift over the turquoise water while the current continues more slowly beneath them.
Function and Rules
The Sidra is an artery of Velaris’s nightlife, with busy bridges and illuminated riverside establishments sustaining activity along both banks.
Residents and Affiliations
Feyre and Rhys’s estate occupies grounds along the Sidra, with gardens and paths extending to the river’s edge.
