A crux disaster destroyed Perris, the former capital of Turah. The destruction led to the establishment of Allesaria in the mountains as the hidden current capital and royal stronghold.

King Ramsey Wolfe raids Treow with soldiers and destroys its library. The attack exposes a serious internal power conflict inside Turah, as local rangers and residents respond with hostility, fear, grief, and relief after his departure.

A bariwolf attack devastates Ashmore after the creatures enter the exposed settlement, hunt civilians through the streets, and surround survivors. Seventeen people die, the infirmary overflows, and the town's cemetery lacks room for all the dead.

A Lyssa-infected tarkin attack reaches Treow and kills eight people, including five Ellder soldiers and three residents. The attack demonstrates that defended settlements with trained fighters and watchtowers remain vulnerable, especially when infected tarkins coordinate in ways ordinary tarkins do not.

Ramsey's forces surround Ravalli residents, block aid, and set Samuel Hay's wooden home on fire while Ramsey declares that Turah needs a few fires. The act shows that Turah settlements face danger from the king's armed forces as well as from monsters.

An unexpectedly early crux threat reaches Ellder while Ramsey concentrates a legion there and orders movement toward hidden Allesaria. Ellder has not finished the roof spikes or heavy bolts needed for crux combat, and the attack creates mass casualties as residents flee through the streets.

The crux attack on Ellder leaves Turah with dead men, women, and children, destroyed buildings, damaged gates, and critically wounded defenders. The losses deepen the kingdom's crisis while Ramsey's escape leaves its next response unresolved.

News of the reported attack in Turah has not reached the Mavins, who dispute Odessa's report because other travelers have heard nothing. Odessa argues that the attack's isolation and the slow movement of news may explain the silence, but Turah remains the reported origin point of the early warning.

Turah's book burning is linked to the concealment of older history and magic. Brother Skore says Ramsey may be acting at the High Priest's direction to hide pre-Voster history, while Odessa wonders whether the suppressed history also concerns Lyssa.

Turah is reached from Quentis by sea, with the Cutter anchoring near a remote gray-sand beach rather than at a visible port or city. The landing site has rocks, reed grass, cool wind, mist-covered pine hills, dense underbrush, and no visible road or trail, so the journey inland begins immediately under Turah guidance.

The inland route from the beach passes through dense pine forest where Turah warriors cut paths and riders may need to travel single file. The forest opens onto broad grass plains, with the mountains still far beyond the first river camp.

Turah's interior route continues across plains into mountain foothills filled with enormous pines, streams, dirt paths, and lighter underbrush than the coastal forest. The main travel path toward Ellder can shift to intermediate settlements such as Treow, and the Turans keep the route tightly controlled.

A kingdom-wide pony-rider network links Turah's cities, towns, villages, and encampments. Riders cross dangerous wilderness alone, change to fresh ponies, accept quick meals at settlements, and carry letters that may already be weeks old when delivered.

Maps of Turah are forbidden under threat of death, making open navigation knowledge dangerous as well as scarce. Odessa's hidden journal map can be assembled only from overlapping drawings of monsters, treehouses, mountains, towns, Ravalli, and the route toward Ellder, and it still lacks a verified route to Allesaria.

Samuel Hay's additions to Odessa's working map supply many roads, towns, rivers, and mountain details, but the route to Allesaria remains deliberately absent. Even an expanded local map leaves the hidden capital outside ordinary access.

The route from Ellder can carry travelers across nearly all of Turah to the southern Axmar Mountains in eight days under Voster control. Allesaria remains somewhere in the mountains near the route marked on Ransom's cuff. Odessa considers leaving Turah through Perris, while the priests direct her eastward toward Ozarth.

Entry into Allesaria requires a blood oath to preserve the hidden capital's secrecy. The rule adds a formal oath barrier to Turah's existing bans on maps and open navigation.

Odessa's sketchbook contains an incomplete map of Turah hidden in aligned page borders, but the route toward Allesaria is still missing. She realizes the map could be completed with lines leading to the Axmar Mountains and destroys part of the borders so it cannot be reconstructed.

The mountains of Turah contain the current royal stronghold and the hidden capital Allesaria. The capital was established there after Perris was destroyed, and its location and stronghold are kept out of foreign rulers' knowledge, maps, and books.

Travel through Turah uses temporary camps and established encampments as part of the route between settlements. Camps require fire perimeters and guarded boundaries because the surrounding land can belong to monsters such as grizzurs.

Treow is built high in the forest canopy, using treehouses, ladders, rope bridges, raised walkways, lookouts, and whistle signals to protect residents from monsters. Its rope ladders can be removed at night, while pulley lifts move water and belongings between the ground and elevated homes.

Many settlements in Turah are spread across the kingdom and built into natural landscapes for protection. Open-country communities provide respite for travelers and support work such as livestock raising and lumber harvesting, but they face monsters, harsh winters, drought, and isolation.

Turah's defense-oriented architecture includes settlements built against mountains or other natural barriers, sealed walls, massive log barriers, spiked streets, spiked roofs, and grizzur-leather equipment. Ellder's construction against the mountains continues this pattern of adapting towns to monsters and the coming threat.

Turah's economy relies on lumber, blacksmithing, forges, and imported metal from Ozarth for tools and weapons. Monster leathers are used for armor and clothing, giving the kingdom's material culture a practical connection to the dangers around it.

Ellder's houses use roof spears as defenses against the coming migration.

Allesaria was built to protect the Voster sanctuary, and its surrounding mountains may have sheltered the Voster during migrations. Turah is also one of the regions where the four remaining orbits may be hidden.

Turah depends on Quentis's grain shipments as part of the trade relationship. After two years of drought, its own production is not enough to sustain its people through the coming threat.

Turah follows the Shield of Sparrows for trade and commerce while guarding its alliances and capital from outsiders. The kingdom's secrecy extends beyond diplomacy into the basic question of where its rulers actually reside.

Weapon training is widespread among Turans rather than limited to elite soldiers. Children learn basic skills from parents or in primary school, timbermen commonly train with axes, and others train with swords or knives.

Treow's monster policy distinguishes between creatures considered part of the ecological chain and creatures that are feral or immediately dangerous. Nonaggressive lionwicks may be trapped and relocated, while grizzurs, bariwolves, and similar threats are killed on sight.

Turah custom includes early horse training, weapons training for women as well as men, and coming-of-age hunts in which young adults may face bariwolves or tarkins. The customs prepare civilians as well as fighters for life in a dangerous kingdom.

Turah responds to the Lyssa outbreak with three hunting parties while still keeping guards at villages and towns. Most Turans have not been told about the infection because King Ramsey says he fears panic, and his army is not helping with the hunts.

Local Turah towns have their own governance systems, but they ultimately answer to the king. The Turah army once enforced peace and compliance in places such as Ravalli and Ashmore before royal protection was withdrawn.

The Turan royal family uses formal doubles for every prince and princess until the royal reaches adulthood. The practice began after a royal heir was murdered at fifteen, and the chosen double takes the royal's public name, appearance, and role when needed.

Turan succession passes to the eldest child of the king and queen regardless of gender. This rule gives Evangeline, King Ramsey Wolfe's concealed daughter, a future claim to the throne after Ransom.

Blood-oath and royal constraints limit open rebellion within Turah even when Ransom wants to stop King Ramsey's experiments. He seeks the king's army for hunting infected monsters, but he cannot simply ask Turan soldiers to rise against their monarch.

Ransom believes King Ramsey has kept Turah's pony riders from carrying the crux warning beyond the kingdom. If the riders stay inside Turah, other kingdoms may not learn of the danger until travelers or ordinary rumor spread it too late.

Turah warriors, wagon crews, horses, and practical-clothed women meet arrivals inland from the remote beach. News that Odessa is Zavier's princess bride and Sparrow spreads quickly among the local people there.

Turah includes people who move among several regions despite the kingdom's secrecy. Cathlin was born in Perris, has lived all over Turah, and has spent many years in Allesaria, showing that access inside the kingdom exists for some residents even while outsiders remain ignorant of the route.

Turah communities value loyalty, family privacy, and discretion. Treow's family-centered life contrasts with Roslo's rumor-prone court culture, and private family matters are deliberately protected.

Turah's people are broadly distrustful of outsiders, and a reported social hierarchy separates residents of concealed Allesaria from those who work in the wilds. The divide reinforces the kingdom's internal secrecy as well as its guarded posture toward foreign powers.

Outside Allesaria, very few people recognize Ransom as Turah's prince. Most people believe the crowned man is Zavier; Ransom says Odessa is intended to become Turah's future queen, but the public largely believes she is married to Dray.

Turah's royal house is connected to Perris wealth through Ransom's mother, who was born into a wealthy noble family there and became queen through a purchased marriage. After her parents and brother died during a disaster, she became sole owner of the family's shipping empire.

Turah's concealed power structure includes hidden royal identities at Ellder, Ramsey's militia, secrecy around Allesaria and its allied sanctuary, and organized hunts against infected monsters. The same secrecy leaves the location and extent of the suspected soldier experiments unclear.

After the crux attack on Ellder, Turah's immediate leadership and security situation are uncertain because Ramsey escapes and the public royal deception around Zavier has consumed years of sacrifice. Ransom considers ending that deception if Zavier survives, so Zavier can reclaim his own life.

Ramsey and the remaining Turan troops pass through Treow after Ellder, and most of Treow's residents follow them toward Allesaria. Turah remains threatened by the migration and Lyssa.

Ransom enters Quentis openly as Zavier Ransom Wolfe, the Turan crown prince, and calls Odessa his queen before King Cross. Their public stance makes Odessa's position as Turah's future queen visible inside the Quentis royal court.

Turah has an established allegiance to the Voster, and Ramsey considered knowledge of the Kennin important for Ransom to possess. That affiliation gives Turah a closer political relationship with Voster factions than Odessa knew from Quentis.
